Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Bruins play well but fall in season opener

On Saturday, the Lady Bruins from Padua Franciscan traveled to Medina to square off against Buckeye. Padua, being led by new head coach Brian Michelson, and a great group of seniors are looking to bring back the winning ways for the Lady Bruin soccer team.

The game started off fast as Buckeye grabbed a quick 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Sophie Barnes in the fifth minute of the game. Padua and Buckeye played great defense for the rest of the first half after the early goal, with Buckeye in front 1-0. Padua came out into the second half roaring with an exceptional goal by Padua Senior Amanda Jancewicz in the 48th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Once again, both teams played good defense and had exceptional play by their goalies.  But something had to give and in the 60th minute Buckeye’s Sophie Barnes scored her 2nd goal of the game to give Buckeye the lead 2-1 with twenty minutes to go in the game. Defense once again was the name of the game as Buckeye held on to win the game 2-1.
