The Padua Bruins nabbed the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over Firelands on Tuesday. The game was tied at one with Padua batting in the top of the eleventh when Zach Brill induced Ryan Whitely to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. The pitching was strong on both sides as Padua’s pitchers struck out six, while Firelands pitchers sat down 12.
In the first inning, Firelands got their offense started when Grant Price singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. In the top of the fourth inning, the Bruins tied things up at one. John Atkins drove in one when he singled. Jonathan Rusin pitched Padua to victory as he went three innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and walking one. Matthew Hyatt started the game for Padua and He went eight innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out six and walking one.
The Bruins will now advance to the Sectional Final in the Division II Parma District as they face Elyria Catholic today at 5:00 pm at Elyria Catholic High School.
