The Padua Football team earned another playoff victory last night defeating Benedictine 42-28 at Serpentini Stadium in North Royalton. With the victory, the Bruins advance to next week's Regional Championship game.
The Bruins opened the scoring on a
Roderick Love 16 yard touchdown run and never trailed throughout the game. Benedictine tied the game later in the first quarter then
Nick Barker hit
Riley Cervenka on a 42 yard touchdown pass to give the Bruins a 14-7 lead after the first. Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the second quarter with Love adding another touchdown run and Barker threw to Cervenka for a 48 yard touchdown pass to give Padua the lead 28-21 at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, Padua scored early in the fourth quarter on a Love touchdown run to extend the Bruins lead to 35-21. The Bengals answered with a touchdown of their own to trim the lead to 35-28, then Love broke free and scored on a 60 yard touchdown run to seal the victory for the Bruins.
Padua makes it's 2nd Regional Championship appearance in the past 3 seasons and will take on Toledo Central Catholic next Friday.
