Cervenka breaks school records in victory over Holy Name

The Boys Basketball team defeated Holy Name 86-66 last night to improve to 6-2 on the season and 2-2 in North Coast Conference play. Riley Cervenka led the Bruins and set two school records in front of the home crowd in the win. Cervenka scored 47 points in the game to break the previous school record of 45 points by Ken Kowall '67 and Jim Smith '68. Cervenka also broke the school record for three pointers in a game with 10 three's last night, surpassing the record of 9 three's which he tied earlier this season along with Tyler Ptacek '13 from the '10-'11 season.

The Bruins led most of the first half but the Green Wave kept it close and took a brief lead in the second quarter. Cervenka scored early and often in the first half scoring 35 of his 47 points, including 7 three's, plus led the run to give the Bruins a 48-39 lead at halftime.  Holy Name stayed within striking distance through most of the second half too, but other Bruins scored to maintain the lead as the Green Wave focused on slowing down Cervenka. Gio Roman scored 17 points and led the team with 14 rebounds. Jack Boswell added 11 points and 7 rebounds and Trey Martin had 11 rebounds and led the defensive effort against HN's scorers.

Padua returns to action on Monday when they travel to Aurora to take on the Greenman.
