The Boys Basketball team defeated Bedford 54-49 in overtime on Saturday to win their first District title in twenty years.
The Bruins jumped out early and led 18-8 after the first period. Bedford chipped away and cut the deficit to one point at the half with Padua leading 20-19. The third quarter went back and forth with the score tied at 31 heading into the fourth quarter. Padua had a 7-0 run to start the fourth and had a 6 point lead late in the game, when the Bearcats stormed back to tie the game in the final minute. Both teams had free throws in the final 5 seconds and split those opportunities to send the game into overtime, where the Bruins prevailed with some clutch baskets and free throw shooting to win the game.
Riley Cervenka led the way with 19 points and
Jack Boswell added 14 points for the Bruins in the victory.
Padua advances to the OHSAA Regional tournament for the 3rd time in school history and plays Garfield Hts on Tuesday at Medina.
