The Baseball team came back to win the OHSAA District Championship on Thursday, defeating Gilmour Academy 6-4 in 8 innings to capture their 16th District title in school history.
Trey Martin had a big day at the plate, including a 2 RBI double in the top of the 8th inning to give the Bruins the lead. T.Martin finished the day with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's.
The Bruins jumped out to a 3-1 lead through four innings on RBI singles by
Braylon Benson and
Bryden Spellacy. The Lancers came back and tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and took the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Down to their last out in the top of the seventh inning, Spellacy was hit by a pitch and TJ Pickett came in to pinch run. Pickett promptly stole second base, then stole third base to get the tying run 90 feet away. On the next pitch, Pickett scored from third base on a passed ball to tie the game and send the game into extra innings.
Chase Martin pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs with 3 strikeouts.
Nathan Krayzel pitched 2 innings, allowing one unearned run with 4 strikeouts, and
Makhi Williams closed the game with a scoreless 8th inning.
Padua advances to the OHSAA Regional semi-finals at Hudson next Wednesday at 2pm against University School.
